Dr. Lara offers a free initial 15-minute video consultation to all prospective clients. During this call, you will be able to briefly discuss what you are looking for and what is going on for you, address questions, and determine next steps based on how this practice can best assist you.

Dr. Lara is a generalist, drawing from extensive training and experience across diverse clinical settings. She has worked with individuals presenting a wide range of symptoms and life experiences, allowing her to approach each client with flexibility and depth. In addition to her generalist background, she has developed specialized expertise in several key areas described below.

Dr. Lara supports individuals and couples navigating the emotional complexities of the perinatal period including fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to parenthood.

Dr. Lara works with individuals exploring family of origin dynamics, parenting, peer relationships, and romantic and sexual experiences. Drawing on her doctoral training in couples and family therapy, as well as Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, she uses a relational psychotherapy approach to support meaningful exploration and growth in these areas.

For the past decade, Dr. Lara has focused her clinical work on supporting marginalized populations. Her doctoral and postdoctoral training emphasized cultural competency and social justice. She frequently works with international students and individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Niche Areas
Dr. Lara has developed several areas of specialization: perinatal period, relationships, and intersectional identities. She primarily works with individuals and couples in these areas, often supporting university students and young adults. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Lara provided psychotherapy in multiple university counseling centers and remains deeply committed to supporting student mental health. She currently serves as a trusted referral source for several university counseling centers in New York and Florida. Dr. Lara has completed Level 2 Training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, a research-based approach for strengthening and repairing relationships.
